Week 9 (November 17 to 20, 2025) homework

Note:  Please try to finish the homework before the next class.  You don’t need to send it to me because we usually talk about the answers in class.  Also, when you finish the homework & prepare for class, it helps me decide if you will be ready for the expectations of Level 4 or not.

Homework from class Monday, November 17, 2025:

1.  Workbook page 44, Exercise A.  Complete the exercise in your workbook, or, for extra writing practice, copy the exercise into your notebook.  We’ll check your answers in class on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

2. Workbook page 48, Exercise I (<– Click here for the audio.)  Listen and check the appropriate boxes (David, Maria or both) for each sentence. We’ll check your answers in class on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

3.  Handouts:  Practice with regular past tense (Links below.)  Complete the exercises on the handouts, or, for extra writing practice, copy the exercises into your notebook. We’ll check your answers in class on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

4.  Listening practice with -ed (<– Click here for the handout.)  Listen to the audio and write the verb in the column of the sound you hear for -ed:  /t/, /d/, or /id/. We’ll check your answers in class on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

5.   Student Book page 117, Exercise A — Irregular Past Verbs (<– Click here for the audio.) Continue to study, listen, and practice the base form and past form of these common irregular verbs.  We’ll practice these a lot in class for the next few weeks.

Homework from class Wednesday, November 19, 2025:

1.  Workbook pp. 44 & 45, Exercises B & C.  Complete the exercises in your workbook, or, for extra writing practice, copy them into your notebook.  We’ll check your answers in class tomorrow, Thursday, November 20, 2025.

2. Listening practice with regular past verbs (<– Click here for the handout I gave you in class.)  Listen to the (AUDIO HERE — on D2L; log in required) and check the sound for -ed that you hear — /t/, /d/, or /id/. We’ll check your answers in class tomorrow, Thursday, November 20, 2025.

3.  Listening & pronunciation with “Katie and Todd” (<– Click here for the handout from class.) Listen again (AUDIO HERE) to the conversation between Katie and Todd. Practice the regular (-ed) past tense verbs.

4.  Video from class: Todd explains -ed pronunciation (<– Click here for the video.) Review the video and take notes for things you want to remember.

5. Student Book page 117, Exercise A — Irregular Past Verbs (<– Click here for the audio.) Continue to study, listen, and practice the base form and past form of these common irregular verbs.  We’ll practice these a lot in class for the next few weeks.  

 

Homework from class Thursday, November 20, 2025:

1.  Student Book page 116

  • Exercise B <– Click here for the audio.  Listen and write the number of syllables that you hear.  #1 and #2 are examples.
  • Exercise C <– Click here for the audio.  Listen and repeat the sentences.  Notice how the verb and the next word are linked (🔗).
  • Exercise D.  Underline the verb, write the verb with -ed, and decide how the verb is pronounced in the past: t, d or id.  Example for #1: registerregistered — d . We’ll talk about the pronunciation in class on Monday, November 24, 2025.
  • Exercise E.  In your notebook, write 5 or more things that you did before or after you moved in the past.  Examples:  I packed boxes.  I asked my friends to help.  I cleaned the new apartment. etc. We’ll share your sentences in class on Monday, November 24, 2025.

2. Student Book pages 118 & 119 — Only read the blue boxes with the grammar examples. We’ll talk about and practice these concepts next week.

3. Workbook pages 48 & 49, Exercises H and J.  Complete the exercises in your workbook, or, for extra writing practice, copy the exercises into your notebook.  We’ll check the answers in class on Monday, November 24, 2025.
