MT101, MT102, MT103 Y N N This is an online course. You should be prepared with a different mentality; it is very easy to get behind. I recommend you schedule three hours per week (just like you would if this class met on campus) to sit down in front of a computer to read, prepare and post class material. These hours need to be without distractions: no kids, no TV, etc. There will be regular quizzes with due dates which you need to be aware of. Students that succeed in the class generally log in about every other day. Those that log in once a week generally fall behind and have a difficult time catching up. And, just like any other course, you will need additional time to do the off-line reading and homework assignments (expect 6-9 hours each week).

Most students in this class take all three: MT101, MT102 and MT103 in the same term.

MT200 N N Presentation program The scheduled meetings are required and count towards class participation.

You will find the required textbook from your MT intro classes very helpful for this course.  That, and several other useful references are on reserve in the PCC Rock Creek library.

MT222 Y N Spreadsheet/ graphing program, word processing program This is a hybrid course – most activities take place online. Students that succeed in the class generally log in at least every other day to check discussion messages. Those that log in once a week generally fall behind and have a difficult time catching up. And, just like any other course, you will need additional time to do the off-line reading and homework assignments (expect 6-9 hours each week for a 3 credit class.)

You should log on to the course as soon as possible starting the Monday of the first week of the term; do not wait for our on-campus meeting. There are assignments that you should get started on, and a quiz to complete before we meet. Our meeting is not a lecture; it is a discussion of the weekly content. You will find our meetings unhelpful if you do not come prepared.

The weekly scheduled meeting is required and counts towards class participation.  We will meet on the Rock Creek campus.

MT223 N N N This course is centered around lab activities. You will be doing experiments utilizing our vacuum trainers which incorporate mechanical and turbo pumps and TC and ion gauges. Analysis will involve measurement and comparison to theory, presented in lab reports. Practice in operation of the vacuum equipment is also an important part of this course.

Larger system projects may require scheduling additional time in the lab towards the end of the term.

MT240 N N N This course is centered around lab activities. You will be doing experiments utilizing specialized equipment for creating and measuring plasma, generating and transmitting radio frequency power, and RF-sputter depositing copper films. Analysis will involve measurement and comparison to theory, presented in lab reports.

Look for early access to the course content via myPCC in the week before the term starts.
