What to do if you’ve been suspended

flag

It’s not uncommon to face serious challenges as part of a college education. Most people will have at least one difficult term, and sometimes, several difficult terms in a row. The academic suspension process exists to prevent students from investing more time, energy, and money in a situation that isn’t working.

Even if you’ve had trouble in the past, you can remove the hold from your account and work toward good standing by demonstrating that you have a plan to overcome your challenges. When you are ready to return to PCC, follow the steps below.

Financial aid
If you are in academic suspension you may also be in financial aid suspension. You will need to submit a separate appeal. See more information about the financial aid appeal process.

Current students: submit an appeal

If you were suspended at the end of last term and want to continue without taking any time off, you’re a current student.  Current students can be granted an appeal if circumstances outside their control interfered with their academic work. Circumstances might include illness, accidents, death in the family, or other difficult situations.

How to return to good standing
  1. Submit the suspension appeal form by the deadlines below. In general, the deadline to appeal is at the end of the first week of classes.
  2. Provide documentation: after you submit the appeal, you may be asked to provide documentation about your situation, such as a doctor’s note, copy of death certificate, or letter of explanation.
  3. If the appeal is approved, your advisor will lift the hold on your account and you can register for classes. At the end of the term, if you meet academic standards, your status will change to good standing. If you do not meet standards, but are working with an advisor, your status will change to continued academic probation.

Returning students: submit a re-entry form

If you were suspended and are returning to PCC after an absence, you’re a returning student. Returning students work with an advisor to determine if this is the right time to return to PCC.

How to return to good standing
  1. Submit the re-entry application form by the deadlines below. In general, the deadline to apply for re-entry is one month before the term starts.
  2. Make an appointment with your advisor. See how to schedule appointments here: Academic Advising.
  3. If re-entry is approved, your advisor will lift the hold on your account and you can register for classes. At the end of the term, if you meet academic standards, your status will change to good standing. If you do not meet standards, but are working with an advisor, your status will change to continued academic probation.
