About Me:

I’ve been involved in Early Childhood Education for over 35 years. I started young!  😉 I’ve worked in both traditional and Montessori settings with infants & toddlers, pre-school and elementary aged children, wearing all kinds of different ‘hats.’ I’ve been a teacher, a program director, curriculum coordinator, program verifier, parenting educator & coach, teacher trainer, and consultant. I founded Child’s View Montessori school where I was the Director for 24 years. I’m a State of Oregon Master Trainer and certified Parenting Educator. (Educating the Essence)

I especially enjoy teaching Child & Family Studies classes here at Portland Community College. In my college years, I attended a wonderful community college where I felt supported and encouraged. I hope to provide that same feeling in my classes. I’m Mom to four, now grown, amazingly awesome kids in a blended family. (Two of my four kids came with my husband.)  Most fun, I’m “Gammy” to two incredible little humans! I live with my husband and two adorable labradoodle pups who I enjoy hiking and kayaking with.

I am extremely passionate about the importance of the early years and supporting families, both for the optimum development of each individual, and to create a more positive world!

I’d love for you to connect via my parenting and educator Facebook,  Instagram and/or LinkedIn pages.

Teaching Philosophy

I believe we are all teachers and learners with much to learn and share with each other. As an instructor, I see myself as a facilitator as we all learn together. We bring out the best in children by bringing out the best in ourselves. We encourage lifelong learning by being lifelong learners ourselves. I love exploring and discovering new ideas and concepts. I appreciate the uniqueness of each student and what each of us brings to the learning environment. I work to create a safe space where students feel supported and comfortable sharing ideas, while embracing the diversity each of us brings.
