Questions About Classes

What will class be like?
The courses I teach are generally a blend of online and remote/in person courses.  This is sometimes called a hybrid course format/ The course structure of these types of course, which is a combination of online learning experience and a in class (remote or in person) meeting once or twice a week. That means that you will doing some self-directed learning activities/coursework outside of class time with 2-3 due dates a week AND 1-2 class meetings that includes in-class activities and lectures. We will get started with some online content on the Monday of the first week of classes, I encourage you to log into all of your classes on that day to help you get oriented with each course. The number of class meeting depends on a few factors like the length of the term (8-week summer term versus 11-week term) as well as the balance of synchronous class meetings and online work. My classes are structured to have a 50/50 split between the two.
Attendance for First Day & Over the Term
Our in class meeting time together during the term is limited, so attendance is expected. This course is designed around our regular class meetings and lectures are not recorded. Students looking for a course that does not meet would be best served by fully online courses as they are designed to support that type of learning. Students that do not attend the first class are dropped from the roster. Remember, we don’t meet as frequently, so if you miss one class meeting, you miss a lot!
Textbooks
PCC Bookstores have restricted hours on campus but you can order a text from the PCC Bookstore and it can be shipped to you. General bookstore  information: https://www.pcc.edu/resources/bookstore/. Go directly to the Rock Creek Bookstore page: https://bookstore.pcc.edu/store3/SelectTermDept.aspx
Technology Access is Part of the Course
This course meets once a week through Zoom and has materials and assignments posted on D2L Brightspace, so technology is required to engage in the course. I know that some students may not have access to reliable internet and/or a computer. These resources were put together by another faculty member at the college and I wanted to pass it on to students in the hopes that they might be a help.
