Portland Community College | Portland, Oregon Portland Community College

Jean Mittelstaedt.Welcome!  I am Jean Mittelstaedt, a composition teacher here at Portland Community College.  I teach writing at the Sylvania Campus. Prior to that, I taught at SE Campus, where I started in 2011. I typically teach Writing 115, Introduction to College Composition, and Writing 122, Intermediate College Composition. I have taught many levels of students, from preschool to middle school to high school to adult, and my definite favorite students are community college students.

I did my undergraduate work (BS Ed.) at Western Oregon University and my graduate work (MAT English, MA English) at Portland State University.  My professional interests include community in American literature, writing instruction, curriculum development, and use of technology in education.

My husband Ted and I live with our goofy dog in SE Portland. Our son is a tow truck driver, and our daughter is in college. I enjoy reading, writing, cycling, crocheting, singing, and an occasional excursion on the Internet.

And remember this:  Write early and write often.
