This course uses the program Game Maker 8.1 Lite running under Windows 7. If you want to use a Macintosh you would need to purchase Game Maker Studio 2 and be technically savvy (e.g., installing programs and creating zip archives of folders).

Instructor comments:

Following PCC policy, all students must actively participate in distance learning courses in the first week or they will be dropped. Create an "Introductions" discussion post by Friday of the first week to stay enrolled in this course. If you are running a later version of Windows and are having difficulties running Game Maker 8.1 Lite, you will need to go into the properties of that program and activate a "Compatibility mode" of "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)". After you install Game Maker and can successfully get it running, be sure to check the option “Advanced Mode” under the File menu. I recommend exploring the Game Maker tutorials that come with the program. The CD that comes with the book has some good reference material but is not required for the course. You may find a rental copy of the textbook online.
