GRN181 Exploring the Field of Aging

Introduces the range of emerging professional opportunities in the field of aging, and guides students in exploring and prioritizing potential career pathways. Includes career and labor market research; assessment of passions, interests, experiences and transferable skills; informational interviews, site visits, and networking; career and educational/training goal setting and planning. From the Instructor:
GRN181 Exploring the Field of Aging guides students through a process of self-assessment, job market analysis, informational interviews, site visits, and planning and goal setting for students priority career pathways. It also provides overviews of the emerging and diverse career areas to work with older adults. This course is required for the AAS Degree and most certificates in Gerontology, but is also suitable for students determining whether a career in aging is right for them. Course Specific Requirements:
**** This course uses Desire2Learn, the PCC Learning Management Software that delivers online courses. To login, please go to https://my.pcc.edu and click on the Desire2Learn login link on the left of your MyPCC homepage. If you are new to distance learning or D2L, please do the online orientation. **** There will be an optional Orientation Workshop on Saturday, April 4, 2015, from 10:00am to 2:00pm on the Sylvania Campus, TCB107. The videostream of that workshop will be available online in D2L by the following Monday at the latest. (You will be required to come to the Orientation OR watch the video of the Orientation.) **** The required textbook, Managing Your Career in Aging, is available in PCC Bookstores. (The same textbook is also used for other Gerontology Career Management Courses: GRN280A&B and 282.) All other materials are available in the online course. **** You are encouraged to attend the optional Gerontology Term Orientation on Monday, March 30, 2015, from 5 to 7pm in on the Sylvania Campus - exact room to be determined - a great opportunity to meet your instructors in this and other Gerontology courses, as well as other students!
