COURSE OBJECTIVES: Understand a dramatic work within the context of cultural and literary traditions. Articulate ways in which the text contributes to self-understanding. Recognize the texts relationship to different art forms. Identify and discuss elements of style, including language, character, plot, etc. Acknowledge the possibility of multiple interpretations of a single text. Demonstrate understanding of the course objectives listed above through verbal and written meansboth individually and in group settings. Provide evidence, obtained through close reading, to support your analysis of a text.
Course Specific Requirements:
REQUIRED TEXTS AND MATERIALS: The Compact Bedford Introduction to Drama, 7th Edition, Lee A. Jacobus, Editor. Writing About Theatre by Christopher Thaiss and Rick Davis. Admission to a minimum of one live professional theater production.
