Details about this class

Thanks for clicking through :). Hi! Psychology is such a dynamic field of study and one of the things I enjoy most about teaching it is helping students understand how psychology may apply in their everyday lives and/or how they may connect with it as a potential career field. In this details page, I want to focus more here on what to expect in a remote hybrid course (education has changed so much in recent years!). If you want to know a little more about me check out my PCC webpage. I want you to know I understand that remote education has been a learning curve for all of us and my approach is to actively support students in being successful in their studies, but also to support navigating remote learning in general.

I know that the PCC schedule can be a bit confusing! This course is set up as a hybrid remote course, so what the heck is a remote hybrid course!?! A hybrid course (sometimes called a blended course) is one that combines elements of an online course with face-to-face meetings. A remote hybrid course is a combination of regular live Zoom based course meeting and online learning. For our class, we will have a once a week remote Zoom class meeting combined with online lecture materials and independent learning activities/homework to cover the required content. All work will be completed/submitted online through D2L Brightspace as well. Online work in hybrid courses, like fully online courses, have due dates multiple days a week and those days may or may not fall on the same day we meet for class. This is intended to stagger your learning activities and prepare you for class meetings and exams. We will be using D2L Brightspace for our course activities whether it is accessing course information, submitting coursework, reading through lecture materials, or logging into a Zoom meeting. This remote hybrid combination is listed in the schedule as both online and remote, showing the regular meeting time.

Our course specifically: We will be meeting from 10:00 AM - 11:50 AM each Tuesday using Zoom for class activities. Much of your work will be submitted online outside of the class meeting in preparation for that meeting and for each exam over the term. You can access online lectures, course materials, coursework, and Zoom meetings through D2L Brightspace using a link in MyPCC or going to online.pcc.edu.

For a full overview of what we cover in the course please take a look at the Course Content and Outcomes Guide for PSY 216 for more details beyond the course description.

Important message about the course set up: Why are we only meeting 2-hours a week? As I mentioned before, this course follows the format of a blended or hybrid course. That means class time is split between a 2-hour once a week Zoom class meeting and online coursework, instead of 4 hours a week of class time. The other 2-hours of "class time" are spent reviewing online lecture materials and completing coursework. That means there is more online engagement for a hybrid course than one that is meeting for the full 4-hours. The schedule for coursework will include due dates on other days of the week (remember, this course is also partially online). Our in class meeting time together during the term is limited, so attendance is expected. his course is designed around our regular class meetings and lectures are not recorded. Students looking for a course that does not meet would be best served by fully online courses as they are designed to support that type of learning.

Because you will be accessing online content and attending virtual meetings, access to a desktop or laptop computer, or tablet with a reliable internet connection are needed. Participation in our weekly online meetings has the added need for a webcam and microphone in order to engage in the full experience of class meetings. If you have trouble accessing technology or a connection for the courses, please consider reviewing this resource for Emergency grants
