AD104: Multicultural Counseling
This course focuses on the role of multiculturalism in the counseling field. The goals of our work will be to acquire cultural competency and cultivate cultural humility. The course emphasizes personal development towards the understanding of and sensitivity to cultural differences including, but not limited to race, ethnicity, religion, gender, and sexuality. This course also promotes an honest examination and personal reflection of one's own cultural identity. We will explore the ways in which membership in a cultural group and identification with that group impact the counseling process for both the client and for the counselor. This course also supports and encourages the development of increased levels of multicultural awareness, competency, and humility as an essential component in the clinical development of future counselors.
