An array of singers from across the Portland metro region and beyond came together to show that the fun and joy of the holiday sing-along are still alive. Performers from the Portland Community College Rock Creek Choirs, Pacific University Choirs, Prairie High School (Battleground, Wash.) Chamber Choir, and Balladeers ensemble of the Multnomah Athletic Club were featured in a virtual variety show that was streamed live via Zoom webinar on December 3, 2020. The music begins at 5:15pm with live jazz piano played by Paul Nelsen. Attendance was open to all free of charge, though donations were gratefully accepted.
The PCC Rock Creek Choirs are directed by Dr. Samuel Barbara; the Pacific University Choirs and the Balladeers are directed by Dr. Scott Tuomi; and the Prairie High School Choirs are under the direction of Douglas Orofino. Together, they aim to delight viewers with holiday favorites including, “Deck the Halls,” “Home for the Holidays,” “We Wish you a Merry Christmas,” “Jingle Bells,” “Silent Night,” “White Christmas,” the Mexican traditional song “La Mujer que Yo Amo,” selections from the Jewish tradition, and much more.
“We all need something to lift our spirits and turn our hearts outward – a chance to remember what it feels like to create together, even if it is a little different right now,” Orofino said. “My hope is that this performance brings light, joy, music and hope to you and yours this holiday season.”
