Our program prepares you for job entry as a fitness technologist/specialist, personal trainer or group fitness instructor. The program is designed to correlate classroom and laboratory experience with practical experience in fitness facilities in the community. Graduates are eligible to take a national personal trainer certifying examination given by various organizations, including: the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the American Council on exercise (ACE), and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Depending upon coursework taken, students may also be eligible for additional health and fitness certifications. For expanded education and training in older adults, students can complete the Career Pathways Certificate in Healthy Older Adult Fitness (HOAF) and/or co-enroll in the gerontology program. Students can also transfer to a four year program after completing the AAS in Exercise Science, taking advantage of the Articulation Agreements with Portland State University and Concordia University.
