Professional standards
The following standards are required to be successful in the CT program:
Behavior
- Possess sufficient behavioral and social skills conducive to professionalism in a college and/or healthcare environment.
Communication
- Use common English and medical terminology to communicate clearly and effectively (oral/written) with patients, coworkers, and other healthcare providers.
Hearing
- Respond to patient questions, concerns, and explanations while performing CT procedures without the use of hearing aids.
- Conduct effective communication with the patient and other healthcare staff without endangering the safety of the patient or staff, or impairing the performance of the procedure.
- Perform necessary vital sign patient monitoring.
Vision
- View radiographic, CT and MRI images and medical reports
- Review and select software options in selecting protocols and imaging parameters on computer screens.
- Read departmental protocol for imaging procedures, the CT examination request, and physicians’ orders.
Motor functions
- Manipulate and grasp small objects required to perform CT.
- Operate both mobile and stationary equipment within the exam room.
- Transfer the patient to and from the imaging table, patient beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, and cribs.
- Provide appropriate balance, gait, and support to perform the duties safely and without placing the patient at risk.
- Provide strength to move and operate medical imaging equipment.
- Perform reaching movements over the imaging table to check patient positioning and placement of imaging coils.
- Manipulate the CT table and straps, CT surface coils, power injectors, and IV equipment.
- Stand unassisted for long periods.
