Online course observations

large icon- training for online instructorsA group of faculty department chairs, deans, and online teaching faculty developed a tool to guide observations of online courses. Whether it’s part of the formal faculty assessment process or an instructor is simply looking for additional feedback on their course, this tool can be used to guide conversations around online teaching and learning. This form is not intended to replace the required documents for the formal assessment process at PCC. It is offered as a supplement to the processes and forms that may already be in use.

Here is the first of two videos about the PCC “Online Course Observation Form.” With PCC Faculty Department Chairs (FDCs) and Deans in mind, Michael Meagher and Noreen Brown (both faculty members and FDCs themselves) discuss the reasoning behind the form, emphasizing that it is an opt-in tool that is designed to be flexible and adaptable.

Here is the second of two videos about the PCC Online Course Observation Form. Michael Meagher and Noreen Brown discuss how they use the form with an emphasis on the flexibility and adaptability of its use.

How to access a course for observation

Instructors may add deans, faculty department chairs, or other faculty to their courses for the purposes of observation and/or assessment. The observer should contact the faculty member and request course access in “Observer” role in D2L Brightspace. Here are the instructions for adding an observer to a course.
