Posted by Donna Swanson
D2L Brightspace 20.19.11 updates for November 2019 – This will be installed on Thursday, November 28th. There are several changes coming this month with our Continuous Delivery update. Two changes are related to Assignments and three related to quizzes.
This month’s update changes included:
- Assignments – D2L is adding an additional column to the assignments page that will show the number of new submissions
- Assignments – Letter Grading is now available
- Intelligent Agents – Able to add images to the emails sent to students
- Quizzes – the ability to restore quiz attempts that have been deleted
- Quizzes – Save feedback as draft
- Quizzes – Set quiz options in the quiz builder
Improvements to Assignments
The Assignments page now contains a New column that shows a count of new submissions and resubmissions. You can opt-in /opt-out of displaying.
Assignments – Letter grading available
Grade Schemes can now be used by instructors to evaluate assignments by associating Selectbox Grade Items to an assignment. When grading an assignment through Assignments, Quick Eval, or Grades, the evaluator is shown a dropdown menu with the associated grade scheme levels. This feature functions identically for rubrics and numeric values as the previously existing Selectbox grade item type in the gradebook.
To be able to use this feature, you must create a custom grade scheme in Grades first. Also note that despite the title, it’s not just letter grades, but a selectbox for any custom grade scheme value, such as “meets expectations” and “needs improvement” type of custom schemes.
Intelligent Agents – add images to the emails
Users can now insert images directly into the body of Intelligent Agent emails using the Add Image button in the HTML editor. The images are attached to the email and shown in place when viewed in the recipient’s external mail client.
Ability to restore quiz attempts that have been deleted
You now have the ability to restore a student’s deleted quiz attempt.
- A deleted quiz attempt can only be restored if the learner does not have another quiz attempt in progress.
- The Restore button only appears for the latest deleted quiz attempt.
Save feedback as draft
Instructors can now clearly see when feedback is saved as a draft, or published, while evaluating quiz submissions. On the quiz evaluation page, the Graded (G) checkbox and Save button have been replaced by the Publish and Save Draft buttons.
Set quiz options in the quiz builder
The new Quiz Builder experience now allows you to set additional quiz options when importing questions from the question library. A More Actions button is visible when users select the checkbox for one or more questions; allowing instructors to set questions as mandatory or bonus directly from Quiz Builder, and change the points assigned to a question or set of questions. There is no change in how the bonus, mandatory, or points features work.
