2018 PCC Sylvania Juried Student Art Show

The 2018 exhibition is open to any student registered in a Sylvania art class during the past year, beginning Spring term of 2017 to the present. Artists may submit up to 3 pieces in any medium that have been completed during that time. Work must be conceived within the context of a studio art, graphic design, interior design, digital darkroom, theater arts or architecture class taken at PCC. Work created for professional reasons or work that has been previously submitted or exhibited is not eligible.

This exhibition will be juried and all work that is not selected must be picked up at the allotted time!

Important dates to remember

  • Exhibition dates: May 29 – June 11, 2018
  • Awards reception: Thursday, May 31, 2-4pm
  • Art drop-off dates:
    • Work will be received in the North View Gallery.
      • Monday, May 21, 10am-4pm
      • Tuesday, May 22, 10am-4pm
    • No late work will be accepted. Artwork will be processed as it arrives, which may take a few minutes, so allow time for processing.
    • To expedite processing, do the following:
      1. Enter your work online.
      2. Print out and complete labels, then affix them to each artwork being entered.
      3. Bring the artworks to the gallery for jurying at the designated dates and times.
  • Jury date: Wednesday, May 23
  • Pick up work that was not juried into the show: Thursday, May 24, 10am-4pm
    • Everyone must come in person to check on the status of their work – there will be no time to contact artists individually.
  • Pick up dates for exhibited work:
    • Tuesday, June 12, 9am-12 noon
    • Wednesday, June 13, 9am-1pm

Please make arrangements to pick up work on these days, or have someone do it for you if you are unable to on these days. Work that is not collected will be dealt with at the discretion of the North View Gallery.

Important: No work will be removed or changed after it has been installed. Under no circumstances will exhibited work be removed before the end of the exhibition dates.

Entry specifications

Each artist may submit up to 3 pieces. There is no size limitation on submissions and it is not necessary to frame 2-D work. However, accepted works on paper which are not framed, will be pinned to the wall—plexi or glass will not be provided. Any piece requiring special installation procedures should be delivered with clear type written instructions and appropriate hardware. Any artwork with special installation procedures without instructions and hardware will be hung at the discretion of the gallery or not hung at all. Please be aware that jury selection will take place before work is installed, so you may wish to include a photo of the installed work if there is complicated installation involved.

  • Each entered artwork must be clearly labeled:
    • Cut out and securely attach entry label to the artwork so it can be identified.
    • Also attach optional statement and/or special installation instructions and special mounting hardware, if any.
  • All work, even work declared “not for sale” must have a declared value in order to calculate insurance rate for the work. No work will have a stated insurance value of more than $250 without permission of the gallery director. Although precautions are taken to protect the art, PCC cannot guarantee reimbursement for lost or damaged work.
  • North View Gallery takes no commission, and prices will not be posted. Any inquiries regarding sales will be referred directly to the artist.
  • Submission of work to this exhibition constitutes permission to have it photographed and reproduced at the discretion of the Gallery.

Juror, Debra Beers

Debra Beers is a Portland-based artist who has worked extensively in drawing, painting and sculptural mediums. Her work has been shown extensively in the Northwest region including exhibitions at The Portland Art Museum, Fairbanks Gallery, Oregon State University and the Art Center Gallery, Seattle Pacific University. A retired art professor at Lewis and Clark College, Beers received her BA in Fine Arts at Western Washington University and her MFA in Drawing and Printmaking from University of Iowa.


  • Best of Show Award: $200 tuition scholarship
  • First Place 2D Award: $112.25 tuition scholarship
  • First Place 3D Award: $112.25 tuition scholarship
  • Additional prizes and purchase coupons for honorable mention recipients

Other gift certificate awards may be given depending upon merchant donor participation. All participants are encouraged to attend the opening reception and announcement of awards. If a winner is not present, awards may be picked up in the Visual and Performing Arts and Design division office. Award winners will receive instructions on how to claim their cash awards and “tuition bucks.” If award winners are leaving PCC, “tuition bucks” may be applied retroactively to previous courses.
