International Education Week 2017
November 13-17, 2017
International Education Week (IEW) is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education promotes programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences.
At PCC, International Education Week is a week-long, district-wide celebration of world cultures and internationalization here on our campuses and in our communities. There is a variety of internationally-focused programming (events, speakers, workshops, and more) on each campus for students, staff, faculty, and community members to be involved in. Coordinated by the Office of International Student Services and planned by many PCC community members, IEW features many events happening each day around the district – check the schedule below to see how many you can attend!

This project is a display of prominent international female poets’ works. The focus will be on feminism and what it means to be a woman in different countries. Each poet will have one relevant poem displayed on a panel, both in the original language and in the English translation. It will be a great opportunity to get more familiar with international literature composed by women.

Who doesn’t like taking selfies? During the first day of International Educational Week, a colorful map as a background, traditional decor, and Instagram-able accessories will be provided to make cool pictures and learn more about upcoming events at RC.

International Extravaganza

More Than Just K-POP

Make the World Your Classroom: How to Plan a Faculty-Led Study Abroad Program

This session will be focused on faculty that are interested in leading an education abroad program. Topics of discussion will include developing a proposal, course, recruitment, and leading a program. I will share faculty responsibilities, lessons learned, the outcomes and benefits of the program as well as student feedback after the completion of the program and why we should be involved in international education.

Dance and Social Change: Explore the Connection with Netflix Star and PCC Alum Vandana Hart
Sylvania CC Building Stage Near Cafeteria, 12-1pm
PCC alum Vandana Hart is the creator and host of We Speak Dance, airing on Netflix global in January, a documentary series using dance as an international language to connect people across cultures. While she was working for the UN and a judge on “So You Think You Can Dance” in Kenya, she found dance was the most powerful way to unite people, transform lives, and act as a weapon for social change. She has traveled to over 80 countries leading dance workshops, choreographing music videos, and consulting for the UN on women’s rights and youth empowerment. She trained at the world-renowned Alvin Ailey School of dance, studied Global Affairs at NYU, and holds a Master’s from the London School of Economics. Join Vandana as she discusses her experiences with the power of dance in social change movements and screens an episode of her upcoming Netflix series, We Speak Dance!
