Importing testgen quizzes into Desire2Learn

You can use TestGen to easily create a testbank of quiz questions, preview the questions and make changes, and upload it to a Desire2Learn course.

  • What is required: A Desire2Learn course shell and TestGen software from the publisher

Step 1: Creating a quiz in TestGen

  1. Create a quiz using TestGen and Save the file to your desktop or appropriate folder.
  2. Click Web Test under Create New on the Test Generator menu.
  3. When asked to specify a Web platform, choose Blackboard 6.x-9.x and click the OK link.
  4. Expand the content on the left and pick the chapter you want to choose questions from.
  5. Click the chapter and type of questions you want for the quiz.
  6. To choose questions, click the question and click the Add Selected Items button at the bottom of the screen.

NOTE: You can switch chapters and add questions from multiple sources for a quiz.

Step 2: Export from TestGen and create the zip file

  1. Click File in the menu bar.
  2. Choose Export.
  3. When asked to specify the platform, choose Blackboard 6.x-9.
  4. Click the OK link.
  5. Enter a name for the question pool when prompted.
  6. Click the OK link.

NOTE: If you have more quizzes to create, repeat these steps, then proceed to Import into Desire2Learn.

Step 3: Import into Desire2Learn

  1. Enter your course in Desire2Learn.
  2. Select Edit Course in the top right corner of the navigation bar.
  3. Choose Import / Export/ Copy Components.
  4. Choose Import Components, click the Choose File buttonand browse for the zip file that you exported from TestGen in step 2.
  5. Select the file and click the Open button.
  6. Click the Start button.
  7. On the Select Course Material page, check the box next to Question Library to import all items.
  8. Click the Next button.
  9. The testbank should now be successfully imported and accessible via the Question Library in the Quizzes area.
