Course Description
Introduction to computer technology for musicians and musicians and music major. Focuses on software-based music composition and notation. Introduces electronic music composers and compositional techniques. Basic knowledge of computers is recommended. Audit available.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Class lectures will be used to provide students with a hands-on approach to computer based music composition. Students will spend time working on individual projects that focus on applying specific concepts and technologies as covered in class lectures.
Students who satisfactorily complete this course will:
- Have a working knowledge of MIDI
- Successfully setup a basic MIDI workstation
- Notate, transpose and manipulate a basic musical composition using notation software
- Create and edit a basic sound wave
- Edit digital audio
- Create basic music composition using MIDI and digital audio
