International Education Week: November 18-22, 2019

International Education Week (IEW) is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education promotes programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences.

At PCC, International Education Week is a week-long, district-wide celebration of world cultures and internationalization here on our campuses and in our communities. There is a variety of internationally-focused programming (events, speakers, workshops and more) on each campus for students, staff, faculty and community members to be involved in. Coordinated by the Office of International Student Services and planned by many PCC community members, IEW features many events happening each day during around the district – check the schedule below to see how many you can attend!

If you'd like more information about IEW events around the country, check the US Department of State's IEW website. And if you'd like more information about IEW related readings, research topics, and more, check the PCC Library's special IEW page.

In celebration of International Education Week, the PCC community is invited to explore the history of Korea and the modern emergence of North and South Korea, including a focus on Korean politics, economics, and popular culture. PCC Instructors Sylvia Gray, Amber Hicks, Maria Wilson-Figueroa, and Kim Smith will share some of the lessons they learned from the East-West Center’s Asian Studies Development Program, where faculty teams from eight U.S. colleges and universities participated in the Summer Institute on Infusing Asian Studies into the Undergraduate Curriculum. The rapid changes that Koreans are experiencing across the peninsula offer powerful insights into the causes and consequences of cultural and structural dynamics that are rarely covered in American media and few Americans understand. Join in this unique conversation and enjoy Korean snacks and tea!
