A group of PCC students perform original slam poems in front of an audience and panel of judges. Organized by Marianne Monson

Art Fair

  • Chris Knight & Mark Andres – Expressive Ink drawing: From Ancient Chinese Masters to Modern Western painters, such as Rembrandt and Van Gogh, artists have long appreciated the poetically expressive, boldly graphic, and rich philosophical applications of ink drawing. Chris and Mark will take turns demonstrating large scale ink drawing of animals and portraits and assisting students in making their own drawings.
  • Shelley Chamberlin – Printmaking: Explore color, layering, and texture with monoprint: the most spontaneous and direct form of printmaking. Create richly layered prints using rollers, brushes, found texture and ink. No experience necessary.
  • Donna Cole – Ceramics: Grab some clay and see what happens when you pinch, grab, and squeeze it into an object.  Watch PCC Ceramics students and faculty throw pots on the potter’s wheel—you may get the opportunity to try it yourself!

Art Fair

  • Mike McGovern – Printmaking: Monotype madness with Mike McGovern. Hands on experience with making black and white painterly prints through additive and subtractive monotype process.
  • Mylan Rakich – Carving: Hand carving demonstration with bass wood, alabaster and soapstone. See a selection of carving tools and techniques with hands-on participation.
  • Kelli Pennington – Photography: Learn the basics of photography by making Cyanotype prints. Kelli will guide students in making photographic blueprints with sunlight and water. (in Printmaking room, room 103)

Who Do You Love? Lecturettes on Artists We Can’t Stop Thinking About

Art Fair

  • Cora Pearl – Calligraphy and Hand Lettering: In this workshop you will see a portfolio of professional work, see a live demo of some of the different styles of calligraphy and hand lettering taught at PCC, learn about the different types of lettering art, and try some hands on lettering yourself. Come take a visit into the world of letters!
  • Micki Skudlarczyk – Ceramics: Micki will be demonstrating her sculptural forms through hand-building. Students will have the opportunity to share their thoughts, ideas and experiences through hand-building a collage of visual imagery to be included in a collaborative wall mural.
  • Mike Southern – Watercolor: Come and explore the dynamic media of watercolor!  Stop by and try your hand at this portable, non-toxic and versatile medium.  Hands on opportunities and demonstrations all through the day.

PCC faculty Marianne Monson and Jason Rizos are joined by Publisher and Author Cameron Pierce and Author Kevin Maloney who will read from recent nonfiction publications, followed by a panel discussion of craft, technique, research, and veracity in the personal creative essay.
