D2L Continuous Delivery

icon continuous deliveryPCC uses D2L Brightspace to host our online classes. D2L Brightspace is like our campus and is essential to online learning at PCC. To keep up with the quick pace of change in online education, D2L has moved to a monthly update cycle called Continuous Delivery. This software development cycle is common among web applications and allows for newer features to be developed, tested and implemented faster. This means that we get to see both newer features and improvements to existing features more than once a year.

Benefits to Continuous Delivery

  • More frequent, less disruptive updates with no downtime
  • Design cycle that focuses on user input. We can see which features we’ve requested and when they are implemented.
  • Access to newer features as soon as they are available, not once a year.

When did this happen?

PCC moved to D2L Brightspace v10.5 and Continuous Delivery on Wednesday, December 16th, 2015. That was the last major upgrade that required any downtime. Monthly updates occur on the 4th Friday of the month. You may not have noticed, but we haven’t had a maintenance window outage in years.

This page will be used to communicate about upcoming changes to the D2L environment, including schedules and a list of highlights that we think are important to communicate with students and faculty about.

The next D2L CD update is scheduled for April 25, 2024.
