Top 20 badgeNational Top 20 Community College
PCC continues to rank among the country's top degree-producing community colleges. In the recently-released "Top 100 Associate Degree Producers Special Report" by the trade newspaper Community College Week, PCC placed in the top 20 in four categories, and in the top 50 in three additional categories. Categories include All Disciplines – Grand Total (#16); All Disciplines – Non-Minority (#8); Liberal Arts and Sciences, General Studies, and Humanities (#13); Computer and Information Sciences and Support Services (#16); All Disciplines – Asian American (#36); Engineering Technologies and Engineering-Related Fields (#39); and Precision Production (#44). The rankings serve as a report card for the nation's nearly 1,500 community colleges on how well they are serving various populations and where they stand among their peers.

The Portland Business Journal analyzed data from Oregon's 56 post-high school institutions, based on the U.S. Department of Education's College Scorecard. PCC ranked best in terms of graduates' salaries given the average cost of tuition per year. It was also the only Oregon institution to make an "honor roll-like list" for its high graduate salaries.

PCC is doing its part to combat climate change, and people have taken notice. In 2017, Second Nature and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) presented PCC with the Second Nature Climate Leadership Award for two-year colleges. The honor recognizes innovative and advanced leadership in sustainability, climate mitigation, and resilience at signatory campuses of the Presidents’ Climate Leadership Commitments. PCC has reduced energy consumption by 65 percent per square foot since 2006, counts nine LEED-certified buildings including a net zero LEED Platinum center in its portfolio, and has three solar installments totaling more than 700 KW.

LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices. Awarded by the US Green Building Council, LEED certification is achieved through a rigorous set of rating systems. Since the passage of the 2008 voter-approved bond measure for PCC, all new construction on PCC campuses have earned a LEED silver certification or higher. Two of PCC's buildings – the Willow Creek Center, and the Newberg Center – have earned LEED Platinum, the highest rating given.

On February 23, 2016, the Rock Creek sustainability program and Bee Campus USA announced that Portland Community College is the fourth institution of higher education in the nation to be certified as an affiliate of the Bee Campus USA program, designed to marshal the strengths of educational campuses for the benefit of pollinators.
