Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

• Consecutively interpret the main points and supporting details of a given source message into the target language.

• Produce a meaning-based, simultaneous interpretation of the main points of a given source message into the target language.

• Practice professionalism within the interpreting profession, including appropriate attire and demeanor.

• Conduct self-assessment and peer-assessment in a professional and respectful manner.

 
Class time will be spent discussing and applying interpreting techniques. Course activities include interpretations, self-analysis, and peer review assignments. 
 

Students will be evaluated through assignments, in-class performance, quizzes, and formal evaluations of recorded ASL-to-English interpretations and recorded English-to-ASL interpretations. Students will be assessed on their ability to produce a grammatically correct, simultaneous, meaning-based interpretation of the main points of a source message

• Achieving dynamic equivalence
• Separating meaning and form
• Application of theoretical models of interpreting
• Identification of the main points of a given source message
