Course Description

Overview of industrial maintenance. OSHA approved industrial safety procedures are practiced. Includes use of basic tools and specialized equipment; lubrication, maintenance and repair motors, drive belts, pulley, and sheaves. Examines the inter-dependency of related systems. Prerequisites: Placement in MTH 20 or higher; (WR 80 or ESOL 252) and (RD 80 or ESOL 250) or equivalent placement test scores. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

This course provides a foundation of general maintenance practices found in industrial and institutional facilities. Concepts include safety practices common in the industrial setting, introduces hazardous materials handling, and the inter-action of building systems. The importance of tools and equipment as applied properly by maintenance technicians is stressed.

Course Activities and Design

Lectures are designed around day to day maintenance procedures common in industry. The learner will describe applications of tools and measuring equipment, apply safety concepts, prepare for and apply assigned maintenance tasks.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

The learner will complete two written examinations, complete class assignments, lab project(s), and quizzes with a minimum average score of 70%. This will provide evidence of learning the concepts and skills identified during lecture and lecture/lab activities
