 CLASS DAYS AND HOURS

  • Mon-Wed In-person class meetings are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00am to 11:50am.
  • This time is reserved for in-class instruction, lectures, demonstrations, discussions, work time and critiques.

OBJECTIVES FOR ART 275

  • Intermediate printmaking focusing on using specified techniques, processes and methods.
  • Continue to develop creative ways to solve problems focusing on specified techniques, processes and methods.
  • Continue to create original hand-printed artwork using knowledge on specified techniques, processes and methods.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of processes, materials, and techniques associated with Printmaking II.
  • Continue self-critiquing skills to develop expression through printmaking.
  • Continue safe practices in regards to the handling of printmaking equipment, tools and cleaning supplies.
  • Exposure to the history of printmaking and the connection to contemporary printmaking practices.
  • Exposure to alternative processes and multi-media work.
  • Integrate learned skills and experiences to other facets of life and education.

GOALS BY THE END OF THE TERM

  • Solve problems using a variety of strategies for making prints.
  • Demonstrate command of intermediate level processes, techniques and materials. 
  • Participate in a critical dialogue about ideas and issues in printmaking applying self-critiquing skills.
  • Interpret and evaluate prints from different cultures to study the diverse perspectives of the human experience.
  • Learn new methodologies for designing and completing prints using specified techniques, processes and methods.
  • Expanded strategies for generating ideas.
  • Create prints with greater focus on developing personal concepts and ideas with awareness of the standards and practices established by both contemporary and historical artists.

MY EXPECTATIONS / STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In-person class attendance.
  • Access to internet, PCC websites, PCC emails, D2L.
  • Turn assignments in by due dates for critiques and discussions.
  • Participate in class meetings, discussions, demonstrations and critiques.
  • Upload completed assignment to D2L.
  • Have materials to work on assignments.
  • Create original artwork using the techniques covered over the term.
  • Learn from mistakes.
  • Find solutions to critical issues and visual problems.
  • Be open to the critique of artwork from teacher and peers.
  • Be open to suggestions and constructive criticism from teacher and peers.
  • Positive work ethic and attitude. Be adaptable and flexible.
  • Help foster an inclusive community within the classroom. 
  • No plagiarizing – do not turn in plagiarized work.
  • Work independently on assigned projects outside of class at home or open studio.
  • Part of each assignment grade is participation in group critiques. Have work ready by the critique deadlines.
  • In my classroom / discussion posts: I do not tolerate any kind of hate speech, derogatory remarks, or jokes about disability, race, sexuality, immigration status, gender, religion, veteran status, height weight ratio, age, marital status, national origin, ethnicity, or native language.

  • All students are required to check their PCC emails and D2L frequently for announcements related to the class.
  • I will be emailing and posting to D2L all assignments and supplemental materials for each project.
  • When emailing me, only use student PCC email address
  • Please do not email me from personal email address.
  • I will not respond to personal email addresses.
  • I cannot share student’s contact information with other students, this is private information.
  • Please be patient when emailing me. I will get back to you.

CLASSROOM POLICIES

  • Only students registered for this course are allowed in our classroom during class time and open studio. No exceptions.
  • Only service animals with proper documentation are allowed in the classroom.
  • Please exit the room to take any calls during class time or open studio time.  
  • Please do not come to class if you are sick. Email me if stay current with assignments and homework.
  • You cannot come into my classroom if you are under the influence of alcohol or narcotics. This is school policy.
  • It is my job to make sure everyone feels safe and accepted in this class.
  • If there are any aspects of this studio that is making it difficult to work, please let me know ASAP.
  • It is my wish for all of my students to succeed in my courses.
  • My classroom is a safe space for all students.  

GRADING POLICIES FOR ART 275 COURSE

  • Grades will depend upon the evaluation of projects, written assignments, attendance, and participation.
  • The quality of grades will be determined by student’s efforts and the quality of work.
  • Missing assignments or parts of assignments will have negative effects on overall grade.
  • Each project is worth up to 100 points
  • Each project will be added up together and averaged out at the end of the term for the overall term grade.

These projects are 70% of your overall grade.

  • Project 1.
  • Project 2.
  • Project 3.

These projects are 20% of your overall grade.

  • Signature Assignment: Research / Presentation.
  • Signature Assignment: Print series based on presentation.

These projects are 10% of your overall grade.

  • Signature Assignment: Final Questionnaire – Written component.

Materials provided by the print shop:

  • All ink and ink modifiers (for all assignments)
  • All cleaning supplies
  • Scissors (we have limited supply of scissors)

Materials you will need to purchase:

  • Pads of 11" x 14" Bristol paper or Strathmore 400 Series Printmaking paper (brown cover)
  • Pencils/pens and sketchbook for sketching out ideas and taking notes.
  • Pad of Newsprint - either 12” x 18” or 18" x 24" 
  • Materials related to Art 272, 273 or 274 - Depending on what Printmaking I classes you have had before taking Art 275 Printmaking II. 

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
