Gear List for PCC Fly Fishing Courses

Intro to Fly Fishing

Participants learning to fly fish in the Intro to Fly Fishing courses in do not need any specialized fly fishing gear. All will be provided.

Gear to bring:

  • Polarized sunglasses
  • Proper outdoor clothing (e.g. a rain jacket)
  • Hat and sun protection
  • Water / snack

Have your own gear you want to try out? That’s fine too! You’ll need a fly rod with line and a reel, leader, tippet, and flies. No need for waders.

Fly Fishing Outings

For these trips (e.g. Clackamas River Outing), we’re fishing on larger rivers. You will need a little more gear:

  • Rod & reel with line and a leader
  • Flies (4-6 should be OK)
  • Extra tippet spool
  • Nippers / scissors
  • Polarized sunglasses
  • Waders are not necessary but strongly suggested. If you don’t have waders, rubber boots, river sandals, or similar can suffice, but you might have to deal with cold feet.

Outings are recommended for anglers with some fly fishing experience, or graduates of PCC’s Introduction to Fly Fishing course.
