About Andrea Obana

I am a Japanese-born, US-raised instructor of Japanese cuisine who has taught both adults and children in various venues, including: Richmond Elementary School, Washougal High School, Mt. Tabor SUN Program's Japanese summer camp ("Kurabu"), Mochitsuki PDX (a city-wide New Year's festival celebrating Japanese New Year), OHSU's March Wellness Health Fair, and Portland Art Museum's Family Day.

Many people feel a bit apprehensive about Japanese cooking. They think it is inaccessible, fussy, technically challenging, and uses mysterious ingredients or tools that are difficult to find. I would like to change that perception and introduce people to real Japanese cooking that can be made simply and deliciously, with local ingredients and using tools that are already in an American kitchen!
