PCC Juried Student Art Show: If you have a creative piece of work you created in a PCC courses in interior design, graphic design, and/or stuidio art –next week is the time to submit! Exhibition dates: May 7 – June 8. Art Drop-Off Dates in the Northview Gallery on the Sylvania Campus in the CT building in 213 on May 1 and May 2 from 10am – 4pm and May 3 from 10am – noon. You can submit up to 3 pieces and the entry forms are very simple and can be filled out when you drop off your art work. If you have any questions, please contact Mark Smith at 971-722-8085 or msmith@pcc.edu If you’re accepted into the show and/or win an award this will look great on your resume!

Join us for a panel discussion featuring panelists from Neil Kelly Design, Elders in Action's Age-Friendly Business Program, and PCC's Interior Design Program as we explore the meaning of age-friendly and universal design.
As the population ages, we'll need spaces that are both beautiful and functional for an older population. There are many future career opportunities in this area, so come and learn more! Refreshments will also be provided.

Students completing their first year by the end of spring 2012 in the following majors are eligible to apply: Architectural Design and Drafting, Interior Design or Building Construction Technology - Design/Build Remodeling. Selection will be based on academic merit, vocational skills and demonstrated interest in the chosen field. 3. Home Builders Association of Portland Scholarships Available now! Applications Due May 11! The Home Builders Foundation is committed to providing educational opportunities, mentorship and training for tomorrow’s workforce in the construction industry. Each year the HBF awards tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships for high school students entering college and post-secondary students in construction-related programs. The Sophomore Portfolio Review is creeping up on us. Stay current by reading the Sophomore Portfolio Review page. We have just posted dates for information and help sessions. Mark your calendars! All Sophomores that are planning to go through the review in the Spring MUST attend one of the information sessions. This is required. Download the Review Packet and the Review Checklist...they are informative ANDhelpful. We swear! ALL DESIGN STUDENTS Alice’s Future City Centerpiece Design Challenge
On May 5, 2012, the Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA) will host our annual awards banquet, the Alice Awards + Auction, to celebrate our work and to honor those who have made significant contributions to building the bicycle movement. This year’s theme is Alice Builds Her Future City. The theme is meant to inspire Portland and the tri-county region to roll up their sleeves and help build a future city, region and state where our children will be healthy and proud to ride bicycles.
The BTA is inviting designers of all sectors to enter a design and build competition for center pieces for this year’s Alice. A panel of expert judges representing design, architecture and engineering fields will select up to 40 centerpieces to display at the dinner and be auctioned off to support the work of the BTA. Awards will be bestowed on the top three entries and a selection of submissions will be displayed in public as part of a formal design exhibit. There will also be a virtual display on the BTA website with links to applicant’s business.

Thanks to the tremendous support of longtime AHC members and the hard work of our numerous volunteers, the AHC is proud to announce the 14th Annual Kitchen Revival Tour!Year after year this self-guided tour has proven to be one of our most successful education events and 2012 should prove to be yet another fantastic must-attend event.
If you are thinking of a kitchen renovation yourself or would just love to see inside some of Portland’s fantastic vintage homes, this tour is certainly for you. Homes have been carefully selected to display a variety, from intact original kitchens, to those painstakingly renovated to reflect their home’s original character. No matter your favorite architectural style, this tour is sure to please.

Like last year, this event will exhibit all competition submissions for review. Students will have the opportunity to participate in the Student’s Choice Award voting prior to the awards ceremony.
The judging professionals will display the winning submissions from each category, provide feedback and share their thoughts on why that presentation was a winner.

The Illuminating Engineering Society (IESNA) Portland Oregon Section is pleased to offer the J.C. Garber Scholarship. The scholarship will be in amount of $1,000 for 2012.
This scholarship is available to dependants, grandchildren, nieces and nephews of current IES Portland Oregon Section members in good standing and current IES Portland Oregon Section and Student members who have been a member for 1 year and in good standing.
Scholarship Deadline: Wednesday, May 16, 2012.
Selection Criteria: The Portland Oregon Section of the IESNA will evaluate the applications according to the following criteria: Academic Performance, Community Involvement, Employment History, Field of Study, and Essay Content.

Cell Phone Photos:
Currently enrolled PCC Sylvania students are invited to submit images for the debut of
our student gallery space in the newly remodeled photography facility. For our first
show, we want to investigate and celebrate the wide range of photographic possibilities
of the cell phone as camera, exploring everything from the simplicity of the snapshot to
the complexity and challenges cell phone photography has to offer. We want to see
what our students have been doing with this easily accessed tool and where they might
be going.
Exhibition Details
Those accepted into the show will be notified by Tuesday, Feb 7th and will be posted on
the PCC Photo Blog. Selected photographers will exhibit Friday, February 10th through
March 2nd, 2012 with an opening reception Friday, Feb 10th 5-6pm
Entry Details
This exhibition will be juried by PCC Sylvania’s photo faculty.
Each student may submit up to three (3) images for consideration.
All current PCC students attending classes at Sylvania are encouraged to submit work.
Images will be printed by the facility, students will not be able to submit printed images.
Images need to be 300 dpi jpg files no larger than 7 inches in its longest dimension.
Each jpg file must be titled with your last name, first initial, “underscore” and the
correlating number to match the entry form. For instance, Bob Smith would be
SmithB_1.jpg. The CD itself must be labeled with the photographer’s name. Materials
will not be returned. Sorry, no slides or prints.

A scholarship in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded annually to one student who demonstrates creativity, vision and knowledge in the field of architectural lighting. This award honors the legacy of lighting pioneer and IES member Sylvan R. Shemitz, FIES. As founder of Sylvan R. Shemitz Designs, Inc., now known as The Lighting Quotient, Shemitz patented many major innovations in asymmetric lighting, including elliptipar and tambient, and invented the first single-source task/ambient lighting solution.

GRAPHIC DESIGN STUDENTS: AdFed Oregon Student Addy Awards Competition
This is a unique three-tiered national creative awards program designed specifically for college students. The ADDY® Awards represent the true spirit of creative excellence by recognizing all forms of advertising from media of all types, creative by all sizes and entrants of all levels.
In 2011-2012, AdFed is hosting the first-ever statewide Oregon ADDY® Awards (formerly known as the Central Oregon Drake Awards). With the introduction of this new statewide competition, there is an exciting opportunity for Oregon college students to compete. Categories in a variety of media range from photography, logo and poster design to website, social media and mobile app design. Students who enter the Student Oregon ADDY® Awards earn bragging rights by competing against other students across the state (and potentially the country!), while winners and finalists reap the benefits of a great resume builder.
