Ana Sacramento

Welcome! Let me tell you a little about myself and my background.

Immediately after I graduated in Environmental Engineering from the New University of Lisbon in Portugal, I started my professional career as a research engineer. I was involved in different research projects that required quite a lot of laboratory work and I soon realized that I really enjoyed the laboratory routine.

I obtained my Masters degree in Tropical Public Health Engineering from the University of Leeds in England. Hungry to be of service and to know the world, I volunteered and worked overseas, for about 7 years, with different humanitarian organizations such as Doctors without Borders and CARE International. I worked together with medical teams as an environmental health engineer in several refugee camps and lived in many different countries with people of diverse cultural backgrounds. I loved my work, which was extremely rewarding, and I also enjoyed traveling and exploring the surrounding countries. Traveling is my number one hobby!

I started teaching at PCC in 1999 (Human Biology and Environmental Sciences) and decided to take the Medical Laboratory Technology program from which I graduated in 2001. After graduating from the program, I worked as an MLT in large hospital laboratories for 4 years and enjoyed every day of it!

In 2006 I joined the MLT Program as an instructor and have been teaching different subjects in the areas of Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Immunohematology, Microbiology, and Parasitology. Although I miss the "bench work", I really enjoy teaching and the contact with students, especially the enthusiastic ones!! So, please, feel free to contact me any time with your questions or comments.

Being a teacher is being a lifetime student!!

Please check my photo album with selected photos from my past 20 years of studying, teaching, working, traveling and enjoying life!!  You can find my photo album in the left column.
