Girls Inc. inspires all girls to be strong, smart and bold! Our gender specific programs and research-based curricula provide girls with the confidence and self-esteem to access a bright and economically-independent future.

Girls form a healthy peer network, achieve academically, and begin preparing for their future. We serve girls from ages 8-18, mostly after school.

Our hope is to provide a unique and meaningful experience for you to explore when considering service learning and internship opportunities.

We’re also happy to work with you to understand what your specific goals are and frame your particular vision to the work that we do whenever possible.

Below, we’ve listed two of the current opportunities offered for the upcoming school year; the Girls Guide Co-Facilitator role, and the Intern for the Community and Program Support (CAPS) Coordinator. For both opportunities, Girls Inc. will provide you with:

•         Training in group facilitation

•         Age-appropriate and gender specific program delivery

•         Classroom time and direct service experience

•         Specific curriculum and behavioral management training

•         Highly researched, ready-made curricula and activities for you to implement with our Girls Groups

•         Ongoing support through direct access with our staff

PROGRAMS OFFERED:
Media Literacy® teaches girls to interpret, critically analyze and respond media messages;
Economic Literacy® teaches girls to manage and invest money;
Operation SMART® introduces girls to science, math, and technology-related careers;
Allies in Action teaches girls how to overcome relational aggression, or bullying.

Girls Guide Co-Facilitators
Job Description
Using a curriculum, co-facilitators assist the lead facilitator with after-school Girls Groups, conduct  activities and discussions designed to help reduce relational aggression, build self-esteem, cultivate communication skills, and develop leadership skills.

Groups meet once a week for 8 weeks usually between 2:00-5:00 pm. Each group is 1-2 hours long. Some additional administrative follow-up work will average a total of around 3 hours per Girls Group in total per week.

Intern for the Community and Program Support (CAPS) Coordinator
Job Description:
Girls Inc. provides a meaningful way to explore the nuts and bolts of a youth serving, non-profit environment. Skills in community building, fund development, program development and evaluation, and information management will be nurtured, along with group facilitation. This is a great opportunity to get direct service AND non-profit management experience.

•         Act as support for CAPS Coordinators, including visiting Portland Public School sites and volunteer assistance

•         Conduct data entry for new contacts, supporters, and sponsors, as well as updating information

•         Support administrative capacity by making outreach phone calls, assist with mass mailings, writing acknowledgement letters to donors or sponsors, doing research as needed

•         Create flyers, brochures, and promotions for upcoming events

•         Staff tabling events throughout the year

•         Facilitate or co-facilitate weekly Girls' Empowerment groups
