- What We Do
We engage community volunteers to read one-on-one with PreK-3rd grade children who need literacy support. Participating children also receive new books each month to keep and read with their families.

Volunteer Site Coordinator/Team Member for SMART (Start Making A Reader Today)
Support children's literacy in your community and inspire a love of books and reading. Work with elementary school staff to schedule students and volunteers and to provide program oversight during reading sessions. Lead a team of committed volunteers and make a significant contribution to your local school.
SMART is a book and reading program that builds literacy skills in K-3rd grade students by pairing them with community volunteers. With the help of thousands of volunteer readers throughout Oregon, the program currently serves over 8500 children at 246 sites.
The Metro SMART program has volunteer site coordinator/team member opportunities throughout Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas counties. Programs run during school hours and the number of volunteer hours is dependent upon elementary school assignment and your availability. Programs run from mid-August 2012 through mid-May 2013.
Opportunities include: Volunteer to run a SMART program two days or five to 15 hours a week; coordinate with one other volunteer one day for two to five hours a week; or volunteer as part of a small team of coordinators (hours per week determined by the team).

Requirements:
