- What We Do
Since 1993, NWEI has been leading the curious and the motivated to take responsibility for Earth. Through discussion courses and the annual EcoChallenge, we help you engage your community in meaningful conversations that lead to “Aha!” moments about the way you live, work, create and consume. The result is a life that is simpler, richer, and better-- for you and for Earth.
- Opportunities for service with us
-
Become a Course Coordinator: Coordinators gather people who are interested in taking a course. This can be done by offering an introductory presentation on the work of NWEI, or by simply gathering friends, family, co-workers or neighbors. Coordinators schedule the course and final celebration meeting, help the group order their discussion course books, encourage membership and communicate with participants.
Mentor new groups (training required): The role of the course mentor is a key role. The mentor’s main objective is to demonstrate a successful group process. Mentors facilitate the first session of a course and assist new discussion groups in getting started.
Present to groups (training required): Presenters make introductory presentations to groups that are interested in doing a NWEI discussion course. Presenters provide background on NWEI, an overview of how our courses work, and a summary of the course topic.
Assist in Curriculum Development: Members of curriculum committees work with NWEI's curriculum coordinator to put together new discussion course books and revise versions of our older courses. Volunteers assist in researching articles, peer review of course drafts, piloting new courses, and consulting regarding the content and flow of courses during their development.
