Now in its 18th year of operation, Film Action Oregon (FAO) supports working artists producing independent film projects, educates youth in the art of filmmaking and animation, and presents a nationally recognized film exhibition program on three screens at the historic Hollywood Theatre. FAO creates a genuine cinematic alternative in the Portland arts community, engaging close to 100,000 audience members a year to experience independent, documentary, classic and foreign films. Additionally, FAO preserves the Hollywood Theatre as a venue for arts organizations to present live performances and special events to the community in a historic, magnificent setting.

Our volunteers spend time batting around obscure pop-cultural references while making the world safe for good cinema.  They pop delicious popcorn, staff the box office and help clean the theaters between shows.  Volunteer efforts at the Hollywood Theatre enable us to funnel resources to help pave the way for underserved youth to make thoughtful films, for talented local artists to produce meaningful works and for Film Action to maintain the historic Theatre as a community venue and cultural hub.
