What We Do

At the Philip Foster Farm National Historic Site you can step back in time and explore this pioneer site on Barlow Road, the “last leg” of the Oregon Trail. See why emigrants called Foster’s Place “paradise at last” after their 2,000 mile trek. The authentic site, less than an hour from Portland, features original 19th Century house and barn, covered wagons, replica blacksmith shop and store, and heritage garden.

Fall and spring tours for schoolchildren allow them to grind corn, use a crosscut saw, pack a wagon to go west, build a log cabin, do laundry with a scrubboard and wringer, and visit authentic original and reproduction buildings of the era.

Opportunities for service with us

Depending on your interests and abilities, we need people to help give
school and adult tours, do retail sales and assist with store management,
maintain office records, help with weekend events, and archive historic
documents into our database. We provide training and costumes as needed.
