Assignment description and sample topics: Comparison/Contrast essay explaining and describing two possible future careers the student is interested in pursuing. Two sources minimum for each topic need to be cited (total of four sources minimum). The goal of the research and subsequent essay is to give students a chance to look into two careers they may be interested in pursuing in the future and by comparing these careers discovering if either or both may be a good fit for them (their life goals, personal preferences, etc.) Upload class assignment and other relevant documents: What are your learning outcomes for this session? Develop a search strategy based on their research topic Perform an efficient search of the library catalog for books and other materials Differentiate between scholarly journals and magazines Construct a query for journal, magazine, or newspaper articles and evaluate best choices in the results list Physically locate items and other resources
Other notes: The main outcome in the WR 115 COG that this assignment addresses is "access and use library and internet sources." Having some perceivable evidence by the end of the class of their ability to find and use a library source is the main goal.
