Yes If yes please specify: Assignment description and sample topics: Science Friday Information Analysis & Primary Research Paper Assignment Directions and Format Dues Dates: 11/02 and 11/30 In this critical analysis assignment students are asked to think critically, examine assumptions, discern hidden values, evaluate evidence and assess conclusions of science, technology, environment and health news as they relate to your personal health/wellbeing. Completed assignments must use the format provided. Assignment Directions: • Go to the NPR Science Friday website at http://sciencefriday.com/ • Click on the Stories tab for the Science Friday archive • Select and Listen to TWO NPR Science Friday podcasts that are of interest to you. Podcasts must be dated within the last two years (i.e., 2010-2012) and be at least 20 minutes in duration.
Write Up & Presentation: 50 points • For EACH podcast, using the format provided, write a 2-3 page paper (single spaced, 12 point, 1” margins) including: a. Title, Date and URL of the podcast (1.5 pts) b. Brief summary of the podcast topic and issues; 150 words (6 pts) c. Identify and critically analyze one significant or meaningful quote or piece of information from the podcast (15 pts) d. Identify and discuss one opposing, alternate view point or conflicting piece of information presented in the podcast. Clearly identify the issue(s) and the names of the source(s) ( 4pts) e. Select at least two Wellness Dimensions. Discuss how these two dimensions are impacted by the podcast information in terms of human health and wellness in general in addition to your health/wellness specifically; 200-250 words (15 pts) f. Correct format (1.5 pts) g. Prepare and deliver a 3-minute presentation to cover parts B, D and E only (5 pts)
Primary Research Paper: 25 Points For ONE of the podcasts: Search scientific peer reviewed professional journals to locate the primary research study which informed or was discussed in the podcast (or instructor approved related to the topic).
