Assignment description and sample topics:
Final analytical research essay, 6-7 pages, which explores a specific
question with no concrete answer. The essay should focus on a question which
is narrow in scope so that the answer (opinion) the student presents can be
supported thoroughly with ample evidence (while exploring alternative views).
Examples: Is microfinance the most effective approach to alleviating
long-term poverty in countries such as Burkina Faso?
How important is nutrition and health education in combating the "revolving
door syndrome" in U.S. prisons?
Is spanking an effective disciplinary technique towards raising emotionally
healthy children?
