Event Description: The 2012 election is taking place against the backdrop of the greatest world economic, social, and political crisis since the 1930s. Mass unemployment, poverty, unending war and the assault on the most basic democratic rights—this is what capitalism holds out for the population of the world. Yet none of the major issues are being publicly discussed in these elections. Behind the backs of working people, both parties are agreed on the need to attack public education and health care, slash workers' wages and living standards, and launch new wars. Whatever their tactical differences, Obama and Romney are equally committed to the defense of the interests of the corporate and financial elite.
