Assignment description and sample topics: The students will be writing a 5-7
research paper based on a primary source of their choosing from the time
period covered in HST 101. I will provide the librarian with a copy of the
assignment sheet before the library instruction class.
Students will be able to (check all that apply):
- Develop a search strategy based on their research topics (15 minutes)
- Perform an efficient search of the library catalog for books and other
materials (15 minutes)
- Construct a query for journal, magazine, or newspaper articles and
evaluate best choices in the results list (25 minutes)
Other notes: They will not be allowed to use "internet sources," only journal
articles and books for their secondary sources.
