Do you need time to discuss non-library matters with your class on the day of
library instruction? Yes
If yes please specify: Will be reviewing essays written the previous week
Assignment description and sample topics: (This is a Saturday morning class;
so, I hope this can be scheduled). Students will begin the process of
completing a comprehensive research project (I-Search Essay) that calls for
12 resources, half of which must be peer-reviewed. The assignment will be due
at the end of the term. The subject must be persuasive, one in which the
students must present both side of the argument while demonstrating that
their position is the strongest. I'll give you a list of potential subjects
and guideline for the essay in next couple of weeks. I'll also give you a
list of topics or issues that students have selected the week before we meet.
Upload class assignment and other relevant documents:
What are your learning outcomes for this session?
1) Students to have a clear understanding of peer reviewed articles and some
2) Students are directed to the rich variety of resources available through
PCC library and websites;
3) Students begin narrowing down their topics;
4) Students have a little time to explore some of the electronic sites and
data bases, looking for their specific topics.
Other notes: I'll drop off the detailed assignment once we settle on a date.
Hope that one of the reference librarians is available on a Saturday morning,
as this is a once-a-week class that meets 9 a.m. to noon. Feel free to call
me if you wish.
