Assignment description and sample topics: Every term I take my RD 90 Ss to the library for a tour, and then they are oriented to the catalog and search databases so that they can browse and select a book for their outside novel reading projects. They need to leave with a general sense of the resources available to them through the library, as well as a book either in hand or requested from another campus. The books need to be at least 250 pages, fiction, and meet some basic level/appropriateness requirements. I have a recommended reading list compiled by librarians at MHCC, but it is only partially useful. I'm working on updating the list; meanwhile, students should be introduced to the suggested reading lists on the PCC library website. Upload class assignment and other relevant documents: What are your learning outcomes for this session? Understand and feel comfortable with library resources. Develop a search strategy based on their interests. Perform an efficient search of the library catalog for books. Locate and check out or request a fiction book of their choice.
