Marianne will send an instruction request form. Librarian can use just the first hour, or longer if necessary. nstructor name: Maryanne Azdine Students refer to me as: Maryanne Instructor e-mail: maryanne.azdine@pcc.edu Instructor phone: 971 570 8114 Instructor location: Cascade Preferred contact: e-mail Course subject: English for Speakers of Other - ESOL Course number: 262 Course CRN: 13699 Number of Students: 20 ADA provisions needed: no Preferred Date: 2013-01-23 Preferred Time: 3:00 pm Alternate Date: Alternate Time: Duration: 40Minutes Do you need time to discuss non-library matters with your class on the day of library instruction? No If yes please specify: Assignment description and sample topics: Students will have a choice from five general topics, and they will need to select and narrow a topic, find an article in a periodical and then summarize the article. The assignment is attached; students need help determining what makes good source material, how to access library info, how to narrow a topic and any other clues you can give them. Their background is very diverse as far as their level of library experience. After a guided/group part of the presentation, I'd like them to have some time to explore their own topic for the assignment. Upload class assignment and other relevant documents: LIBASSG1.DOC: http://www.pcc.edu/library/sites/default/files/webform/assignments/LIBASSG1_1.DOC
What are your learning outcomes for this session? All of the above! Also: become familiar with library resources and how to access them; develop skills needed to be in control of information rather than at its mercy Other notes: Generally speaking, even though they may be computer literate, ESOL students are often unaware of the tools and resources available to them through the library that can improve the end product of academic writing for them, as opposed to encountering information through Wikipedia or Google accidents. Please encourage thinking rather than giving up and switching topics ad nauseum.

Instructor name: Bret Walton Students refer to me as: Instructor e-mail: bret.walton@pcc.edu Instructor phone: 503-679-5594 Instructor location: Cascade Preferred contact: e-mail Course subject: Business Administration - BA Course number: 205 Course CRN: 15276 Number of Students: 21 ADA provisions needed: no Preferred Date: 2013-01-30 Preferred Time: 6:00 pm Alternate Date: 2013-02-06 Alternate Time: 6:00 pm Duration: 90Minutes Do you need time to discuss non-library matters with your class on the day of library instruction? Yes If yes please specify: Non-library topics will be discussed before/after the presentation. Assignment description and sample topics: This is a business communication course, with a capstone research/presentation project. Most students will have had minimal experience with the library staff resources, how to conduct a database search etc. A brief overview of the library resources, staff roles and assistance scope and how to conduct searches and navigate the most common databases would be wonderful.
Thank You! Upload class assignment and other relevant documents: team_research_project.doc: http://www.pcc.edu/library/sites/default/files/webform/assignments/team_research_project.doc
What are your learning outcomes for this session? Basic understanding of library location, hours, physical layout, staff resources, how to navigate databases, remote access etc, general research/query tips. Other notes: I had a similar presentation delivered by library staff during Winter 2011 for this same course and it was very well received by the students.
