Portland Community College | Portland, Oregon

Find the story you want to tell and the way you want to write it. Explore memoir, personal essay and prose poetry in a supportive workshop environment. Generate new material and discover a new truth. No writing experience necessary.

We will examine and engage in the many ways to tell a true story, making new writing from genre models and sharing our work as we go. Our class will culminate with everyone sharing a final piece. The last two sessions will be dedicated to workshopping and celebrating those pieces. Following the Amherst Writers and Artists philosophy of everyone having the capacity to write and simply needing a safe space in which to develop work and hone craft, this class will support both the novice and the experienced writer.
