9WRI610H Personal History: Write it Your Way
You have a story to tell; you know how it begins and ends. Play with various ways to tell it, generate new material and discover a new truth. Explore memoir, personal essay and prose poetry in a supportive environment.
We will examine and engage in the many ways to tell a true story - making new writing from genre models and sharing our work as we go. Our class will culminate with everyone sharing a final piece. Our last two session will be dedicated to workshopping and celebrating those pieces. Following the Amherst Writers and Artists philosophy of everyone having the capacity to write and simply needing a safe space in which to develop work and hone craft, this class will support both the novice and the experienced writer.
