Visit East African art sites through videos, slides and lectures. We will view prehistoric art, tribal and traditional pieces and contemporary work. We'll discuss what we've seen, then try out our own related designs. All materials provided.
"Kusafiri" means to travel in Kiswahili and you will visit amazing places in this class: the ancient Kushite pyramids of Sudan; the rock-cut churches of Ethiopia; the rock art sites of Somalia; the coral Swahili islands of Kenya; the royal tombs of Uganda; the murals of Mozambique; the Tutsi pottery works of Rwanda; the sculptured graveyards of Madagascar.
