Explore the native plants of the Leach Botanical garden outdoors. Learn new techniques to create beautiful illustrations in your own personal style. Leach Garden provides a perfect outdoor lab to study native flora. All levels welcome.
At Leach Botanical Garden we will have access to the vast gardens and draw from the native flora on the grounds. Learn how to develop a botanical illustration from the first phases of a sketch to a fully developed watercolor illustration, you will be able to add techniques that increase your observational skills. From draftsmanship and color theory to the use of repetition that will sharpen your skills as an artist no matter what level you are. In addition to developing work we will also focus on plant i.d. skills at the site. Learn plant i.d. techniques and study how natives and invasive plants develop their own communities. Drawing and painting are great ways to observe and connect with your local habitats. All levels welcome.
