Develops skills for finding, utilizing and modifying PHP and MySQL resources on the Internet. Explores ways to personalize web sites for visitors with a variety of dynamic server-based techniques such as processing forms, displaying text or images from a database, implementing a shopping cart or a discussion board, tracking visitors, and password-protecting a web site. From the Instructor:
This course is designed for students with client-side web programming skills (ideally JavaScript and jQuery, as taught in CAS 213). This course has more emphasis on creating program code and understanding the basic concepts of server-side programming using PHP. Students create a working website which includes a login and forms, all connected to a MySQL database. Students will also learn the basics of SQL as part of the course.
Course Specific Requirements:
PREREQUISITE: CAS 213 or Instructor Permission. You are expected to be comfortable creating JavaScript and/or jQuery code from scratch (without using a tool that creates it for you), creating CSS from scratch (without using a tool that creates it for you), creating a web page with HTML, uploading pages with FTP, creating a web site consisting of multiple pages with links, images, tables, and forms using a web page editor such as Dreamweaver (or pure HTML). This class may be very difficult or impossible for you if you do not have the skills described above.

Check-in requirements:Students must check in to the course (by completing the Wizard on the class home page) by Wednesday night of the first week of class or they may be dropped from the class.
