The American Heart Association's Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) course is designed for all healthcare providers who know BLS but who must also recognize a child with a potentially life-threatening condition. It focuses on pediatric assessment and recognition skills so that the providers can more rapidly and accurately enlist the aid of more advanced practitioners. With less emphasis on pathophysiology and management, it better meets the needs of many pre-hospital providers, in-hospital providers outside the critical care areas, outpatient clinic staff, and school-based providers. Required text: PEARS Provider Manual, available at PCC Sylvania Campus bookstore, 971-722-4910.
