The medical coder reviews medical documentation provided by physicians and other health care providers in order to obtain detailed information regarding their disease, injuries, surgical operations, and other procedures. The medical coder uses this information for reimbursement of hospital and physician claims. The information compiled by the medical coders is also used to prepare statistical reports for use by clinic and hospital administrators for planning, marketing, and other management purposes. Online courses require that students have basic to intermediate computer savvy, and are skilled in personal discipline, task organization and time mgmt. You should expect to invest a minimum of 2/3 hrs of study for every hour of lecture in order to be successful in this course.
